How do I pick cookware with the right dimensions to ensure they work on my induction hob?

When shopping for induction-compatible cookware, it’s important to consider not just the overall size, but the diameter of the base—this is the part that comes into contact with your hob and determines whether the pan will work effectively.

The quoted size (e.g. “16cm saucepan”) typically refers to the rim-to-rim measurement across the top of the pan, not the induction-relevant base. A 16cm pan may have a base as small as 11–13cm, which can be too small for some induction hobs.

Why does this matter?
Most induction hobs have minimum base size requirements, often between 120mm and 140mm, depending on the brand and model. If the base of your pan is smaller than the hob’s detection zone, it may not activate—even if the pan is magnetic.

Tips for choosing induction-suitable cookware:

  • Look for the base diameter in the product description, not just the overall size.

  • For hobs with automatic pan detection, ensure your cookware base meets the minimum requirement for that specific cooking zone.

  • When in doubt, contact our Customer Service team with the product name and size—we’ll confirm the actual base measurement for you.
