Do stainless steel handles get hot?

Stainless steel handles can get hot, but not instantly. Stainless steel is a relatively poor conductor of heat, meaning it heats up slowly compared to materials like aluminium. However, with prolonged exposure to heat, the handles can become too hot to touch safely — especially during oven use or extended cooking on the hob.

Handle vs. Lid Temperature:

  • Pan Handles: These warm gradually, particularly if they’re not directly above a flame or heat source. Still, we always recommend using an oven glove or heat-resistant cloth when handling.
  • Lid Handles and Knobs: These tend to heat up faster because they sit directly above steam or rising heat. They should always be handled with caution.

Stellar Safety Tip:

Even if the handle feels warm rather than hot, using protection like an oven glove helps avoid burns — especially during longer cooking sessions or when removing pans from the oven.
