Why do some non-stick pans costs so much more than others?

The price difference in non-stick pans comes down to several key factors. One obvious reason is the material and construction: a lightweight pan made from thin pressed aluminium is much cheaper to produce than a heavy, thick cast aluminium or steel pan, which offers greater durability and heat retention.

Beyond materials, the quality and complexity of the non-stick coating play a major role. Lower-cost pans often feature a single-layer coating only 7–8 microns thick, which tends to wear away quickly with regular use. Higher-end pans, however, boast advanced multi-layer coatings — typically three layers totaling 40 microns or more in thickness. These thicker, multi-layer coatings are engineered for enhanced durability, superior non-stick performance, and longer lifespan.

In essence, the investment in better materials and sophisticated coating technology explains why premium non-stick pans command higher prices while delivering better cooking experiences and longevity.
